A: Real estate agents list properties and hope that someone will buy them. That agent has to show the property, and often times stage the property to show to prospective buyers IF there are any. An agent’s commission is between 3 and 6 percent of the sale price of the house. (So if a house sells for $100,000, you will pay between $3,000 and $6,000 in commission to the agent.) Real estate agents do provide a great service for those who can’t wait 6-12 months to sell and to those who don’t mind giving up some of the sale price to pay for the commissions. We make our living taking the risk to buy the house from you with our own cash, repair the house, and market it ourselves or find a renter (which is all the hard part in these markets).
